The NVQ level 5 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety is a new work-based qualification which has replaced the Occupational Health and
Safety NVQ Level 4, and is designed for persons who are appointed to provide Health and Safety assistance in organisations where there are
significant hazards and complex risks. It is essentially for those individuals who are practising Health and Safety advisors with responsibility
for influencing policy or those who maybe aspiring to become safety consultants and members of The Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.
This qualification is recognised by The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) as a route to membership.
At a time when there is a lot of discussion about ‘COMPETENCE’ this is a qualification that measures the competence of people, who influence standards
of Health and Safety within organisations. NVQs are widely accepted as being assets to any company wishing to increase the competence of its staff and
the organisation. They are viewed as building blocks upon which the success of your organisation can be built and are entirely consistent with other
initiatives such as Investors in People and OHSAS 18001. In addition many insurance companies see NVQs as a key element to ensuring the competence of
their clients’ staff when assessing Employers' Liability Insurance.
Business Safety Systems is widely accepted as one of the most successful NVQ providers in the UK with over 900 successful candidates. All our assessors
and verifiers are members of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health and have experience in a wide range of working environments.
Candidates may also use our unique NVQ on-line system to help them with the process of putting together their portfolios.
What happens after I sign up for my NVQ?
Every NVQ candidate is allocated a personal mentor to assist him/her in understanding the qualification requirements and to guide them through the
process of gathering evidence and portfolio development.
All of our NVQ mentors are CMIOSH qualified and experienced Health and Safety professionals with substantial NVQ assessment and verification
experience and relevant qualifications.
Regular contact between the candidate and his/her assessor will take place until completion of the qualification, including an observation visit
to the candidate's place of work.
How do I put together my NVQ portfolio?
We have also developed a unique on-line system to assist candidates in gathering evidence and developing their NVQ portfolio.
The system also enables mentoring, assessment and verification to be carried out remotely, thereby saving substantial time and travelling. Although
regular direct contact between the candidate and his/her mentor can still take place, and is encouraged.
