Course Aims

This half day course is aimed at making managers and other employees who regularly work in an office environment aware of the health and safety risks that they may encounter at work.

Many employers and managers wrongly consider that people who work in offices are completely free from health and safety risks. This view is often shared by the employees themselves.

The course outlines the types of tasks that are regularly carried out by office workers that can, and indeed do, result in injuries and ill health, with consequential absence from work for long periods.

It combines tutorials, videos with guidance material that have been developed to provide delegates with an understanding of the both the relevant legal requirements and practical issues that relate to work in offices, including issues such as manual handling, display screen equipment, fire and electrical safety.

It should therefore assist organisations in reducing work related accidents and ill health amongst office staff by making the employees in question more aware of matters such as correct lifting techniques, postural issues and other good health and safety practices.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of the course delegates should:

1. Have a good appreciation of the legal requirements that apply to work in offices

2. Be able to understand the types of health and safety risks involved

3. Understand risk assessments and be able to contribute to the process

4. Be more aware of correct manual handling techniques for common office tasks

5. Have a better understanding of the risks associated with display screen equipment and means of reducing such risks
