Course aims

This half-day course is designed to provide safety representatives with an increased appreciation and awareness of the their roles and responsibilities together with a basic knowledge of the fundamentals of health and safety at work.

It combines tutorials, videos with interactive exercises that have been developed to provide delegates with an understanding of general health and safety legal requirements and how they can apply this knowledge in carrying out their duties as safety representatives to assist their company in improving relevant standards for the benefit of the workforce that they represent.

It should therefore assist organisations to improve means of communication on health and safety matters and to raise standards and reduce accidents and ill health at work.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of the course delegates should:

1. Have a good appreciation of employers and employees responsibilities under health and safety legislation

2. Be aware of the legal rights and responsibilities of safety representatives

3. Be able to encourage employees to work more safely and reduce risk of accidents

4. Possess a basic knowledge of health, safety and welfare legal requirements

5. Have an appreciation of the consequence of poor standards of health and safety

6. Be able to contribute to the company’s health and safety systems

7. Be able to act as a ‘Health and Safety Champion’
