Background

On average falls from height accounts for approximately 50 fatal accidents at work and around 3500 major injuries. They remain the single biggest cause of workplace deaths and one of the main causes of major injury.

These figures include approximately 15 people a year who are killed and nearly 1200 who suffer major injuries as the result of falls from ladders.

Course aims

The course has been developed and is delivered in a manner to provide attendees with an appreciation of the particular risks involved with work at height and a basic understanding of the relevant legal requirements.

It covers the requirements of the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and provides advice on how such work should be planned, organised and assessed in order to reduce the risks involved.

It is therefore suitable for employees who may work at height or use ladders together with managers who are required to supervise such staff and work.

It also provides practical advice on issues to consider when choosing or inspecting ladders and other height access equipment.
