IOSH Practical Safety Awareness
2 Day Course
This course is designed to provide first line managers, supervisors, safety representatives and general employees with a basic knowledge of Health and Safety
at work. It should allow them to appreciate the reasons for adopting safe working practices and the consequences of failing to work safely. Organisations
should benefit from reductions in accident rates, absenteeism and injury claims.
Course objectives;
This course uses tutorials, videos and inter-active exercises to instruct delegates. On completion of the course candidates should understand their individual
responsibilities and how their actions contribute to Health and Safety in the workplace.
The syllabus concentrates on:

Defining safe working practices and identifying hazards and risks

Workplace precautions and assisting managers to prepare risk assessments

Workplace precautions for sources of hazards: fire, manual handling, electricity, display screen equipment, chemicals and substances, work equipment,
movement of people, housekeeping and noise

Improving the organisation’s safety performance, including reporting relevant accidents and incidents

Monitoring work activities and complying with requirements for control in safety management

Co-operating with managers in safety activities and communicating on safety matters

Identifying competences required for safe working

Examination
Multi-choice test paper includes 22 questions plus a practical project
Successful candidates will be awarded the IOSH Practical Safety Awareness Certificate
