To meet increasing customer demand we have become one of the first training companies to provide the NEBOSH National Certificate in
Environmental Management to complement our other courses, including the NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Safety and
Health.
All our courses are designed to be stimulating and informative, containing a mixture of presentations, information and
practical exercises.
The Course
The NEBOSH National Certificate in Environmental Management is a new qualification which has been launched as part of the NEBOSH
qualification portfolio following a successful pilot exercise in 2008 with over 200 candidates in the UK and overseas.
Who is it designed for?
The course is designed for managers, supervisors and employees who have responsibility for managing environmental issues as part of
their work.
However is not a qualification purely for environmental specialists. No previous environmental management knowledge is required.
Who will benefit from attending the course?
The qualification focuses on assessing environmental management systems with reference to UK legislation and is intended to provide a
sound basis for progression onto the NEBOSH National Diploma in Environmental Management (Level 6).
The qualification will therefore benefit companies in all industry sectors who are seeking to implement effective environmental
management systems and to provide line managers with a sound understanding of the principles of managing environmental risk.
Qualified personnel will be better placed to assist their organisations to meet their environmental obligations, assess the
environmental impact of business activities (eg, raw materials, waste disposal, energy use, emissions, storage) and advise on the
preventative and protective measures to put in place.
Course format
The Certificate consists of two units, each of which is assessed separately.
Unit NEC1 (Management and control of environmental hazards) consists of nine syllabus elements assessed by one written examination.
Unit NEC2 (Environmental practical application) is designed to test application of the knowledge and understanding acquired from
the NEC1 syllabus, through a workplace-based practical assessment.
Course duration
Unit NEC1 consists of 5.5 days of tuition including the examination. Tuition time is a minimum of 35 hours with additional
recommended private study.
Unit NEC2 is a practical unit with no formal syllabus. The assessment should normally take place within 14 days of sitting the
examination for unit NEC1, to be agreed with their course provider. This involves the completion of an environmental review of a
workplace and the preparation of a report to management.
Certification
Upon completion of both units and the practical assessment, a NEBOSH Level 3 Certificate award is issued.
Venue
Courses are held at our own training centre in Stafford or at one of a number of selected locations around the UK.
Courses can also be provided at your business premises for a maximum of 10 delegates.
