Introduction
Environmental issues have become more important to all businesses as the consequences of our activities on our planet become more
apparent and better understood. As a result customers, suppliers and investors are taking environmental issues more into account
in their business decisions.
Businesses are also affected by the increasing amount and scope of environmental legislation. While your business must comply with
environmental legislation, there is benefit to be gained by taking the level of commitment further.
Protecting the environment can benefit businesses in a number of ways. They can significantly cut costs by reducing the amount of
energy and raw materials used, together with the required waste disposal.
Tackling environmental issues can also improve the reputation of businesses with customers, regulators, investors and the local
community.
Managing and improving environmental performance should be a key priority for all businesses. To achieve these priorities businesses
need competent people. Providing effective and high quality training about environmental management is essential for ensuring a
competent workforce to help businesses to:
-
Identify and manage their significant environmental impacts
-
Comply with environmental legislation
-
Develop a positive culture, where valuing the environment becomes second nature to everyone
-
Secure continuous improvement in environmental performance
-
Identify the savings and business opportunities which can be derived from improved environmental performance
